Indianapolis firefighters and mutual aid companies responded in the early morning hours to this recent working apartment fire.

Crews responding to Waterside at Castleton Apartments found heavy fire showing from the first and second floors of a two-story building of ordinary construction. Although there were reports of entrapment, after a primary search companies learned all occupants had made it out prior to the arrival of the department.

Firefighters had difficulty establishing initial water supply due to distance of hydrants at entrance to position of fire building. Firefighters were also affected by the heat and humidity. At total of 16 units were affected, with 24 victims displaced. Firefighters reunited two dogs with their family. A total of 23 Indianapolis Fire Department units responded, along with five from the city of Lawrence.
