Injured Seattle Firefighter’s $12.75M Award Upheld by Court

A former Seattle (WA) firefighter who was injured in an on-duty fall in 2003 has had his $12.75 million award upheld by the state court of appeals.

This is the second time a court has upheld the 2009 judgment, according to a Seattle Times report (http://bit.ly/y9P2qH), when a Superior Court jury found that Mark Jones had been left permanently disabled after falling through a fire-station pole hole.

Seattle and its insurance company have fought the verdict, claiming that Jones, 48, exaggerated the extent of his injuries. In 2010, city insurance lawyers released a video showing Jones engaged in physical activities after his injury.

City attorneys have not said whether they plan to appeal the latest ruling.
