Investigators Still Unsure What Caused Deadly Houston Fire

Houston, TX, October 17-Fire investigators in Houston are continuing their search to determine what caused a six-alarm fire in a high-rise apartment complex that killed a captain in the Houston Fire Department and an occupant in the apartment in which the fire is believed to have originated.

Fire crews were called to the Four Leaf Towers at 4:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 13. Officials say the fire originated in an apartment on the fifth floor and spread to the sixth and seventh floors. Captain Jay Jahnke died of smoke inhalation when he and several others became trapped during a search and rescue operation. Three other firefighters were also injured-one suffered third-degree burns and smoke inhalation; the other two suffered just smoke inhalation. Two paramedics were also treated for smoke inhalation.
