Irondale AL Firefighter in Critical Condition After Collapsing at House Fire

An Irondale firefighter is in critical condition after he collapsed inside a house while putting out a fire, reports al.com (http://bit.ly/SmmziC).

Firefighters had put out the main body of the fire and were scanning the house for any other flare-ups when the man collapsed, Irondale Fire Chief Randy Davis said.

Firefighters on the scene started CPR and advanced life support, then took him to Trinity Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition. The department is not releasing his name to ensure his family’s privacy.

“We’re all holding our breath right now,” Davis said. “It’s going to be a waiting game for the next couple days while they’re treating him.”

The firefighter has worked for the department for six or seven years. The fire broke out Saturday morning inside a house at 5th Avenue South and 18th Street.
