Kansas Assistant Chief Dies from Heart Attack

A Kansas firefighter has died after suffering a heart attack following an emergency response last week, the U.S. Fire Administration reports.

Assistant Fire Chief Daniel F. Cool, 71, of the Jefferson County Fire Department #1 – Kaw responded to an emergency incident on the morning of February 11. Later that day, he attended a training meeting and collapsed suddenly from a heart attack. Chief Cool was admitted to St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, where he succumbed to his injury early in the morning of February 14.
