Six Firefighters Injured, Two Critically, in KS Blast

A report from the Salina Journal indicates that six Kirwin (KS) firefighters were injured–two critically–when a semi containing an acetylene gas welding cylinder and flammable liquids caught fire then exploded on Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Firefighters Rex Lowe and Chester Peak were criticall injured and taken to Nebraska hospital, while the other injured firefighters were taken to local hospitals then released. The explosion apparently occured after fire from a burning water tower extended to the vehicle, which contractors had left filled with equipment.
