KS Fire Lieutenant Dies After Being Badly Burned in Structure Fire

The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) shared its notice on the death of a fire lieutenant with the Baxter Springs (KS) Fire Department who succumbed to injuries he sustained while battling a house fire last month.

On Friday, October15, 2021, Lieutenant Malachi Brown, 32, was working at the scene of a residential fire when he suffered third-degree burns. The USFA notice indicated that Lieutenant Brown had become trapped while advancing lines for fire attack.

He was transported to the Springfield Burn Unit and was placed in a medically induced coma. Lieutenant Malachi Brown succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, November 10, 2021.

Lieutenant Brown was married and a father to three children.
