Veteran Winchester (KY) Firefighter Raymond Patrick received letters of reprimand from the city after he refused to work a third consecutive 24-hour shift in October. Patrick’s refusal came amidst a busy time for the department in which it responded to five fires in four days. Patrick told wkyt.com that the larger issue looming over his punishment was the effect the department’s mandatory overtime policy had on public safety, forcing firefighters and paramedics to work without adequate rest.
