Shortly after 2:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon, fire officials received a call about a kitchen fire at 801 Court Street, reports twcnews.com.
Within minutes, they arrived on the scene and found heavy smoke and flames shooting from both floors of the home and quickly jumped into action.
“We had a victim reported on the roof, on the porch roof. So we had a burn victim on the roof. We also were trying to locate another victim on the second floor inside. Our firefighters were able to find that trapped victim and pull him out,” said Syracuse Deputy Fire Chief Todd Milton.
In total, three victims were transported to the hospital. Fire officials say 12 people lived in the home and after arriving on scene, their main concern was to locate all of them.
“A lot of our first companies, worked hard, got into some high heat and dangerous conditions. but with a report of so many victims in there, we really pushed on and bring as many people out as we could,” Deputy Milton said.
While firefighters were trying to extinguish the fire, dozens looked on in awe. Dark heavy smoke could be seen from blocks away.
