The firefighter was examined by paramedics and cleared to resume working, officials said.
Crews were called about 11:30 a.m. to 1404 East Margaret Ave., near North Bruce Street and North Maryland Parkway, where a chimney fire spread to the attic and roof, officials said.
It appears squatters were staying in the house, officials said.
It took about 45 minutes to put out the fire. The cause is under investigation, and the extent of damage has not yet been assessed, officials said.
