Lawrence (MA) FD Rehires 8 Firefighters

The city of Lawrence, Massachusetts, has rehired eight of the 24 firefighters it laid off in June 2010, according to news reports. The move comes after the local firefighters union voted to make $241,000 in contract concessions. The department was apparently left dangerously understaffed by the firefighter layoffs, and has recently faced criticism over its alleged over-reliance on mutual aid from nearby communities during fire calls.
