Help Wanted

Carlstadt, N.J.:

Recently a group of us in the Carlstadt Fire Department decided to undertake a labor of love for the benefit of the fire service’s history.

We own a hand pumper manufactured in 1865 by the Joseph P. Smith Co. of New York City, and while the rig has always been kept in great shape, it isn’t completely original. We have decided to try to restore this magnificent piece to its original glory.

Therefore, any information, drawings, specifications or suggestions would be greatly appreciated and can be sent to me as secretary of the Hand Pumper Restoration Committee, P.O. Box 193, Carlstadt, N.J. 07072.
