WAKE-UP CALL
Thanks to Captain Sean Gray from Cobb County (GA) Fire & Rescue and Fire Department of New York Deputy Chief George Healy for the up-to-date wake-up call about automatic storage and retrieval systems (“Firefighting Challenges in Warehouses: The Battle Against the Bots,” Fire Engineering, November 2024).
Their article reminds us of the emerging challenges of sophisticated warehouse technology and fire protection efforts.
The authors make some very important points regarding new technology, including the updated impact of lithium-ion batteries in these systems. The most important observation is that emerging technology has rapidly “outpaced the code industry.”
