July 31: Chief Ralph Wynne, 46, of the Pactolus (NC) Volunteer Fire Department, died after suffering a heart attack while participating in a training exercise.

August 26: Assistant Fire Chief David Nall, 40, of the Jay (FL) Volunteer Fire Department, died after suffering a heart attack while operating at an EMS run.

August 27: Probationary Firefighter Stephen J. Masto, 28, a four-month member of the Santa Barbara (CA) Fire Department, was found dead at the scene of a 180-acre wildland fire. The exact cause of death is not known at this time.

August 31: Firefighter Tim Dawson, 34, of the Center Rock (SC) Volunteer Fire Department, was killed after the fire apparatus on which he was responding was involved in a motor vehicle accident.

September 13: Firefighter Kenneth Cashman, 29, of the Auglaize Township (OH) Volunteer Fire Department, was killed when he was involved in a motor vehicle accident while responding to an alarm.

September 15: Firefighter Terri Hood, 31, of the McCulloch (IN) Fire Department, was killed after being struck by a fire apparatus backing out from the scene of a field and barn fire.
