Longtime Duxbury (MA) Firefighter Dies

John E. Thomas, a 28-year member of the Duxbury (MA) Fire Department, died on Sunday.

The local FOX affiliate reported that Thomas’s death is being considered an “active duty death,” and was apparently medical in nature. Few other details were available.

As in previous years, there have been numerous firefighter “medical” line-of-duty deaths (LODDs) so far in 2014 as compared to “operational” LODDs. As an example, earlier this month a West Virginia fire chief died from a heart attack, one of many firefighters felled by cardiac-related events thus far this year.
