Fairfax County firefighters responded to the 8200 block of Cat Bird Circle around 3 p.m. for a large fire at the complex. Four firefighters reportedly suffered minor injuries in the fire.

According to the local NBC affiliate, the fire went to four alarms. Fairfax County Fire Department Chief Richard Bowers said firefighters made multiple rescues at the scene, and that crews had to adjust from an interior search and rescue to an external one because of the force of the flames. Many residents were trapped on the higher floors and had to be rescued.
