The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) reported on the death of a Lubbock (TX) firefighter in an accident that also claimed the life of a police officer and injured one other firefighter.
According to the USFA, on Saturday, January 11, 2020, Lieutenant David Hill, 39, and another firefighter responded to the scene of a vehicle crash on the northbound lanes of Interstate 27 in Lubbock, Texas. While working at the scene, Lieutenant Hill, the firefighter, and a police officer were hit by a passing vehicle. Lieutenant Hill and the firefighter were immediately transported to the hospital where Lieutenant Hill passed away from the injuries he sustained. The other firefighter is listed in critical condition. The police officer, identified in other reports as Officer Nicholas Reyna, 27, died at the scene.
Lieutenant Hill had 10 years of service.
