By 4:55 p.m., Lynn Fire reported that a second building was now on fire, with heavy smoke and flames showing on all floors.
At 5:20 p.m., the main fire was out, but companies were still on every floor of the two buildings, checking for hot spots and fire inside the walls and ceilings, according to Lynn Fire. Firefighters could be heard on emergency radio reporting significant fires still burning in small attic areas and cocklofts in the buildings.
The fire was finally under control just after 6 p.m., according to Lynn radio dispatchers. The Red Cross was called in to help the displaced residents. There are between 40-50 people homeless because of the fire.
Witnesses took photos of the wood-frame building as flames and billowing thick black smoke could be seen from the front of the structure.
