MA Firefighter Honored for Off-Duty Rescue

A Weymouth (MA) firefighter was honored for a rescue he effected in conjunction with an off-duty Quincy firefighter.

John Higgins was honored for his actions with commendations presented to him by local officials on March 27, according to Wicked Local Hanover (http://bit.ly/XMsU7G).

Higgins and firefighter Michael Eastwick had been driving around enjoying a day off when they noticed smoke coming from a home in Hingham. Prior to the arrival of local fire crews, the two forced entry to the burning structure and removed the occupant; the occupant want to re-enter the house to retrieve her dog, but the firefighters prevented her from doing so.
