A Worcester (MA) firefighter roused a sleeping woman from her basement apartment and escorted her from the burning building Wednesday.
According to a news report from the Telegram & Gazette (http://bit.ly/AbO0ok), Bobby Almeida was awakened from sleep by Lieutenant Donald Courtney, who had been in the area on assignment, investigating candidates for the new firefighter recruit class and heard about a nearby fire incident. Lt. Courtney and other firefighters made their way through heavy smoke to help Almeida to safety, removing her from the two-story brick and stucco house, which was on fire.
The structure’s roof eventually caved in as firefighters applied water to it. There were no injuries.
