Update 8:00 p.m. A spokeswoman for the company that runs a Peterborough (NH) ball bearing plant where an explosion happened this afternoon said that workers had been injured, but the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening (http://bo.st/1ocW1w7)
“At this point we don’t know what caused the explosion, but we know it was an in-house issue,” Kathy Gerrity, assistant to the president at New Hampshire Ball Bearings Inc.. “We are rolling out emergency procedures.”
WMUR-TV (Channel 9) reported that 15 people were injured, including two seriously who were medevaced from the scene.
Original Story: Sources indicated a major explosion at an industrial site in Peterborough, New Hampshire.
The Keene Sentinel reported (http://bit.ly/1h5dg1B) that firefighters and emergency responders were reporting some type of explosion at N.H. Ball Bearing. Injuries have been reported by emergency workers. The incident had gone to four alarms.
A Fire Engineering source indicated that the incident was deemed a mass-casualty incident. Tweets from breaking news agencies indicated there were more than 100 firefighters on scene and more than 10 injured.
