Auburn, N.Y. – Two people died early Tuesday after a fire engulfed their home in Auburn, firefighters said.
Around 2:10 a.m., firefighters responded to the house fire at 12 Foote St., according to Jeff Clark, assistant fire chief for the Auburn Fire Department. A 911 caller reported people were trapped inside the home.
Clark said smoke and flames could be seen from a distance. When fire crews arrived, they saw flames coming from the attic and the first and second floors.
Fire crews attempted to fight the fire inside the home, but pulled and fought the flames from the exterior of the home, Clark said.
The fire was extinguished in 20 minutes. A man and a woman were found dead on the first floor of the home after fire crews extinguished the flames, Clark said.
Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
Two other occupants in the multi-family home escaped and were not injured. They were displaced from the home and assisted by the American Red Cross.
