MA Man Dies When Pickup Strikes Vehicle Clearing Storm Debris

CHELMSFORD, Mass. (AP) — A 22-year-old Massachusetts man died when the pickup truck he was driving struck a town-owned vehicle that was cleaning up debris after Tropical Storm Isaias, authorities say.

Michael Franklin, of Westford, struck the bucket of a front-end loader owned by the town of Chelmsford that was assisting with the removal of fallen trees at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a statement Wednesday from Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Chelmsford police Chief James Spinney.

Franklin died at the scene. The driver of the loader, a 53-year-old man, was transported to Lowell General Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
