A Charlotte (NC) firefighter was rescued after getting trapped at the scene of a three-alarm fire, according to a release from the department.
At 1:37 a.m. on October 15, 2024, the Charlotte Fire Department responded to a working house fire in the Ballantyne area at the 8500 block of Ledger Ct. Upon arrival, fire crews reported heavy fire showing from the garage area on the A/B side of the residence. A second alarm was struck at 2:01 a.m. as the fire rapidly spread. Thanks to the quick and coordinated efforts of firefighters on scene, a good knockdown was achieved by 2:04 a.m.

At 2:06 a.m., a structural collapse occurred on the A/B side of the home, resulting in a Mayday call. One firefighter from Engine 24 becoming trapped. Immediately, a third alarm was struck, and Rescue 10, along with several other companies, launched a heroic and rapid rescue operation. After working tirelessly for 20 minutes, the firefighter was freed at 2:26 a.m. and transported to CIVIC Main with minor injuries.
The firefighter has since been released from the hospital, and a full recovery is expected.
The fire was declared under control at 3:06 a.m. A total of 80 firefighters were on the scene. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Charlotte Fire Chief Reginald Johnson commended the extraordinary efforts of the firefighters involved in the rescue. “The bravery and skill demonstrated by our teams this morning underscore the training and preparation that goes into every response. Their swift actions saved a life, and we are grateful for the positive outcome. Our thoughts remain with the firefighter and his family as he heals.”
