A Chicago (IL) firefighter was seriously injured during a fall on the fireground Sunday night in the Humboldt Park section of the city, reports say.
The firefighter was on the roof of a three-story building in the 800 block of North Hamlin Avenue when he reportedly fell into the basement, according to ABC 7. He sustained serious injuries.
Firefighters reportedly had to contend with hoarding conditions on the building’s second floor, the report noted.
NBC reported that crews initially responded to reports of people trapped at the fire. Approximately 10 minutes into the incident, the firefighter plunged through a light shaft, which prompted a Mayday call. The injured member was reportedly talking after the fall.
The incident occurred on a few days after a firefighter with the Fire Department of New York suvived a 40-foot fall down a shaft at a fire in Harlem.
