Happy New Year!! In 2017, the fire service experienced 93 line-of-duty-deaths. Although the number is high, when we dig down into the data we see that only one firefighter was killed inside of a burning building. The staff here at Mayday Monday is encouraged by these statistics and hopes that it is a result of the continued emphasis on fire service training and preparation, that more and more members are getting and staying ready for their next fire. We hope that all are learning from the sacrifices of firefighters who have been injured and killed in the line of duty.
In the spirit of the New Year, it is time to make some New Year’s Resolutions. As we have done in the past, we present to you a list of survival skills. This list comes to us from our friends at the Fire Department Training Network (FDTN). Download HERE as a PDF (4.8 MB).
2017 was another good year for the Mayday Monday Firefighter Survival Campaign. Please continue to send in any suggestions you have for future posts and keep sending pictures of you and your crew performing survival training. Send information/pictures to mayday.monday@dc.gov. Thank you for your support.
