A Waldorf (MD) firefighter evaded injury in a diesel tank explosion during a barn fire early Tuesday.

WUSA9 reported that Allen Bizzell, 23, was flowing water on the tank when he paused for a few second. Bizzell said this pause allowed the explosion to occur. The report said he was standing about 10-15 feet away and was knocked over by the blast, but not injured.

Charles County Volunteer Fire & EMS Chief Mark Kaufmann told reporters that crews didn’t know there were tanks inside the structure until they started fighting the fire.
