After Almost 180 Years, MI Fire Department to Dissolve

After nearly 180 years of firefighting service, the Pontiac (MI) Fire Department is slated to dissolve and merge with the Waterford Fire Department.

Last December, the firefighters of the department voted to merge rather than lose their jobs altogether. As part of the merger, two fire stations in Pontiac would be closed, and the city would enter into a 10-year contract with Waterford, according to the Detroit Free Press (http://on.freep.com/zCN8jt).

The below video, which was sent in to us by Detroit fire photographer and longtime Fire Engineering contributor Dennis Walus, is a tribute to the firefighters of Pontiac. See more of Dennis’s fire photography at detroitfiregroundimages.smugmug.com. Fire photographer Ian Kushnir indicated the video below was made by Mike Moshier, a Pontiac firefighter, with pictures by Ian Kushnir, Jason Frattini, and Mike Moshier.
