Miami-Dade (FL) Fire Releases Video on Firefighter Stress and Resiliency

Miami-Dade (FL) Fire-Rescue recently released a video the department made on controlling job-related stress and suicide in firefighters.

After any significant traumatic event or critical incident, strong emotional reactions are expected and normal. The signs and symptoms of a stress reaction may last anywhere from a few days, to a few weeks or sometimes longer. Most of the time, our experiences with traumatic events make us stronger be “emotionally stretching” us and helping us to develop resiliency. Often times, however, the physical and emotional effect that compounded stress can have on us can potentially interfere with the ability to function normally. Over the last several months, members of the Miami-Dade chaplaincy and their video services unit have put together an excellent video to help us understand these types of stressors and how they are affecting our brother and sister firefighters.

Thanks to Captain Bill Gustin for relaying the video. See it on YouTube at http://youtu.be/jNh_OBhkthE
