Midwest Fire Equipment & Repair Company (Midwest Fire) partnered with Dr. Rich Gasaway over the weekend to bring a Situational Awareness Matters Course to Loveland Fire Rescue Authority. The department entered to win the course at FDIC 2014 and was selected at random.
“We were able to open the event up and invite members of neighboring Colorado Fire Departments,” said Loveland Fire Rescue Authority Battalion Chief Jason Starck. “The event was a great success with around 70 attendees. We were very honored and thankful for an event focused on improving safety and preventing deaths.”
Dr. Gasaway separated the day into two classroom sessions. The first session was “Firefighter Safety: Mistakes & Best Practices” and the second session presented was “Flawed Situational Awareness: The Stealth Killer of First Responders.”
“It has been an incredible honor to partner with Midwest Fire as the sponsor for this Situational Awareness Matters program. The event was very well attended and the students were very engaged. I really appreciated Dean Atchison and Jeff Bowen attending the program and sharing, lending their support to my mission and sharing their passion for firefighter safety.”
This was the first partnership between Dr. Gasaway and Midwest Fire but there are more plans for 2015.
“Working with Dr. Gasaway on our FDIC prize in 2014 was such a great experience we decided to keep it going for 2015,” said Midwest Fire CEO Sarah Atchison, “Rather than sponsoring a single fire department for a class, this year we will do a couple different mini projects together. Firefighter safety goes hand in hand with saving lives and we are proud and honored to partner with Dr. Gasaway on spreading his situational awareness message.”
