On Thursday November 16th at 14:43, Milford (CT) Fire Department units were dispatched for a reported tractor trailer fire at the I-95 Rest Stop – South Bound. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fully involved cab portion of a tractor trailer. Crews were not able to initially locate the driver and the vehicle was not placarded. First-arriving companies quickly deployed a 2 ½-inch attack line and extinguished the bulk of the fire. A positive water supply was established and all remaining fire was extinguished.
Both saddle tanks of the vehicle had ruptured prior to arrival of fire department units, causing a flammable liquid fire on the ground flowing down the curb line. Crews were able to quickly dam the flow and use a dry chem extinguisher. A secondary 1 ¾-inch attack line was deployed for foam operations. The trailer portion was opened and all contents were removed. Salvage and overhaul operations continued throughout the incident.

“There were no injuries reported,” PIO/Battalion Chief Anthony Fabrizi stated. “There was secondary damage sustained to an overhead highway sign, which was positioned directly above the burning tractor.” D.E.E.P. was called and responded to handle diesel/fluids involved in the incident.

Adam J. Hansen is a lieutenant assigned to Engine 7 in the Milford (CT) Fire Department, where he has worked since 2006. He began his career as a volunteer in Branford, Connecticut, in 1999. Hansen has a BS degree in fire science (fire administration) and a minor in criminal justice from the University of New Haven. He is a nationally registered paramedic and is state-certified in fire service instructor 1, fire officer 1, incident safety officer, pump operator, and aerial operator and in rescue operations: trench.
