Mother and Son Die in NJ House Fire

Scotch Plains (NJ) – Authorities are investigating the cause of a house fire that claimed the lives of a 32-year-old mother and her three-year-old son.

Firefighters forced their way into the home on Church Avenue after neighbors reported smoke coming from the second floor on Tuesday night.

Scotch Plains Police Chief Brian Mahoney said the fire was extinguished within five minutes and the damage was confined to the second story of the duplex.
