NAMES IN THE NEWS


ROBERT G. NIXON, an FDIC speaker, FireEMS author, NCTI West Coast director, EMS educator, published author, and former AMR clinical manager in the Northeast, passed away May 22 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the president of LifeCare Medical Training in Auburn, Massachusetts, and had been involved in EMS for more than 35 years. Nixon taught EMT and paramedic courses at local and national fire academies and conferences and published six books and more than 100 articles.


Retired Tualatin Valley (OR) Fire & Rescue Division Chief TIM BIRR received the 2008 Silver Sparky award from Oregon State Fire Marshal Nancy Orr. Birr was recognized for the thousands of hours he has voluntarily committed to fire protection and prevention efforts on behalf of Oregonians. He is a leading member of the Oregon Fire Safety Coalition and helped pass Oregon’s Fire-Safer Cigarette law.
