Anaheim Named Chief

Deputy Chief Bob D. Simpson of Los Angeles County became chief of the 221-member Anaheim, Calif., Fire Department Feb. 4. He succeeded Chief James W. Riley, who retired on Dec. 28 after heading the department for eight years.

At the time of his appointment to Anaheim, Simpson is a deputy chief in charge of the Services Bureau for the 129 station fire agencies serving Los Angeles County. His growth record included advancements from fire inspector to engineer in 1958, captain in 1961, battalion chief in 1966 and division assistant chief in 1973. He was appointed deputy chief in 1975.

Drago Named Director

John J. Drago became director of the Broward County Fire Protection Division, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Dec. 17.

Drago has designed a federal fire training program, a master training program for professional advancement., examinations for various fire fighter and officers levels and “the nine concept,” a simple method of figuring pump pressures.

Drago served as line officer in the Ossining, N.Y. Fire Department; training officer in the Florence, S.C. Fire Department; deputy chief in the Dublin, Ga., Fire Department; and recently as a consultant. He has been a state instructor in North Carolina and Georgia.
