Reardon Is Named Chief

John P. Reardon was appointed chief of the New Haven, Conn., Department of Fire Service on October 5 by Mayor Frank Logue. Reardon, who entered the department October 4, 1950, was a battalion chief and acting director of training when the mayor selected him to succeed Chief Francis J. Sweeney, who retired last August 30.

Promoted to lieutenant in 1961, Reardon became a captain in 1967, and he was assigned to the training school as assistant drillmaster in 1968. Six years later, he was promoted to battalion chief and drillmaster.

Reardon is a past president of the Connecticut Fire Department Instructors Association and for 10 years has been an instructor in the Connecticut State Fire School.

New Tucson Deputy Chief

Assistant Chief Matthew F. Garry was named deputy chief of the Tucson, Ariz., Fire Department’s operation division on September 24. He will be in command of the suppression and medical sections that comprise that division.

A Tucson resident since 1942, Garry has served with the department for the last 12 years. He became assistant chief in January 1975 and, as platoon commander, was in charge of one third of the 400-man suppression division.

Garry was selected for his ability in the areas of management and planning.
