NAMES IN THE NEWS
MIRAMAR (FL) FIRE-RESCUE won first place at Clinclon ’92, the 13th Annual International Advanced Life Support Competition, which took place in July. The team was sponsored by Hollywood Medical Center. This year’s team members were Lt. Buddy Sachs, Lt. Joe Cabrera, Joe Prendes, and Keith Tomey—all are firefighter paramedics.
■ CHIEF ROY E. BRYANT of the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida, was the recipient of the annual CINCLANTFLT Equal Employment Opportunity Award for 1991. Bryant consistently performed his duties in an exemplary and professional manner and was successful in meeting and exceeding established affirmative action goals and in providing training and advancement opportunities for his personnel.
■ LIEUTENANT DOUGLAS C. GOOSTREE of the Eik Grove (II.) Fire Department won a scholarship from the Northern Illinois Chapter of the National Fire Sprinkler Association. Frank Robertson, president of the chapter, presented the check, as observed by Fire Chief James MacArthur.
■ The following won awards at the Du Pont Firefighter Combat Challenge, Southwestern Region: IRVING (TX). Best Team; JlM TRUSSELL, Irving (TX) Fire Department, Best Individual; and JIMMY DICKERSON, piano crx) l ire Department. Best Chief. The following won awards at the competition for the Northern California Region: AMERICAN RIVER FlRE DE- PARTMENT (TEAM 1), Best Team; CHARLES JENKINS. American River Fire Department (Team 1), Best Individual; and GLEN MCDONALD. Fair Oaks Fire Protection, Best Chief.
■ DENNIS A. LUNDSTEDT, former chief fire marshal for the U.S. State Department, was named Maine’s new state fire marshal this past June. Lundstedt replaces DON BlSSET. who retired alter 32 years of state service. Lundstedt will oversee a staff of 32 at the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office, which investigates serious fires, enforces fireworks laws, and inspects and reviews construction plans for public buildings
