>> GLENN CORBETT was named the 2012 Man of the Year by the Firefighter Christopher Santora Educational Scholarship Fund. Corbett, an associate professor for John Jay College, has continuously advocated for fire safety improvements in high-rise buildings as well as advances in emergency response and communications through his Congressional testimony, 9/11 Commission testimony, and his position on the federal advisory committee to the National Institute of Standards and Technology in its investigation of the World Trade Center disaster. www.christophersantora.com.

>> MARSHA GIESLER received the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA’s) 2012 Fire and Life Safety Educator of the Year award. Giesler is the public education officer and juvenile fire interventionist and an assistant to the chief for the Downers Grove (IL) Fire Department. The award recognizes a fire and life safety educator who works for a local fire department, uses NFPA’s materials in consistent and creative ways, demonstrates excellence and innovation in reaching out to the community, and views NFPA as the source for safety information. She visits 17 public and private elementary schools each month and routinely conducts evacuation drills in her community. Giesler has implemented fire safety education programs using NFPA materials for more than 20 years. www.nfpa.org.
