Carrol L. Herring, director of the Louisiana State University Firemen Training Program was appointed state fire marshal by Governor Dave Treen of Louisiana. Herring was picked for his qualifications achieved over his 33 years in the fire service, 18 of which have been in the field of training and education in all areas of the fire service, including inspections and investigations.

Herring has served on national committees such as the NFPA Fire Service Training Committee, the ISFSI Training and Education Committee, has been a member of the executive board of the IFSTA and board of directors of the ISFSI. He has served as chairman of the Joint Council of Fire Service Organizations.

Bogardus Names Chief

Ronald Wayne Bogardus was recently named chief of the Oxnard, Calif, fire department. Bogardus served as assistant chief in Ventura since 1971 and previously as fire inspector in Pasadena.

Bogardus succeeds Henry A. Gustafson, who retired in June after 32 years of service.
