The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) announced the election of HAROLD A. SCHAITBERGER to the Board of Directors. Shaitberger is general president of the 300,000 member International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), the largest firefighter and paramedics union in the world. Elected by the IAFF in 2000, he is serving his third fouryear term as general president. Schaitberger began his fire service career in 1966 as a firefighter in Fairfax County, Virginia, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant. Appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009, Schaitberger serves on the Department of Homeland Security Advisory Board to Secretary Janet Napolitano and the AFLCIO Executive Committee, and has been a vice president of the AFLCIO Executive Council since 2000. www.nfpa.org |
