Los Angeles, CA-NASA has developed a robot plane expected to be able to circle over wildfires for up to 24 hours, beaming video images and data back to earth computers via satellite.
According to a Reuters report, the unmanned plane is called the Altus II. It will allow fire officials to view fires that can burn thousands of acres in real time. It’s possible for the plane to map dozens of fires and topographical features in one day without ever endangering a pilot.
The plane is based on the Air Force’s “Predator” unmanned surveillance aircraft.
