Shortly after 11 p.m. on January 25, 2015, Nash County (NC) 911 Center was receiving calls of flames coming from the roof of the bar and tavern known as the Hard Luck Saloon which was formerly the Bachelors Tavern, located at 813 East Nash Street in the Spring Hope section of Nash County.
Fire departments from Spring Hope, Momeyer, and Stanhope were dispatched. The first in fire units reported that they have heavy fire showing from the roof area of a 120 x 100 building and requested an aerial ladder from the Bailey Fire Department.
Firefighters went in service using 2 1/2-inch water lines trying to knock down the spread of the fire, which by now was spreading to a large storage area in the rear of the building. Bailey Fire Department arrived and went into service with their ladder pipe.
The fire had consumed most of the front of the tavern area and the roof had caved in from the second floor.
It took firefighters more than one hour to contain the fire to the front area part of the tavern. Most of the first and second floor area received heavy fire damage and the rest of the building received heavy smoke and water damage.
Nash County Fire Marshal’s office was notified and a full investigation is being made. The tavern was closed at the time of the fire. There were more than 50 firefighters fighting the fire throughout the night with no injuries reported.
Two Nash County EMS units were on the scene. The main highway which is also the bypass route of NC 64 was closed for more than five hours.
