NC Battalion Chief Dies of Apparent Heart Attack

The U.S. Fire Administration issued a notice on the recent on-duty death of a North Carolina battalion chief.

Battalion Chief Mark Holt, 50, worked a 24-hour shift with Thomasville (NC) Fire and Rescue during which he responded to a fire call. His shift ended the morning of Tuesday, February 8, 2022.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 9, 2022, he was found unresponsive by a family member at his house. Emergency crews were immediately called and performed CPR. He was pronounced deceased at his home a short time later from an apparent heart attack.

Battalion Chief Holt originally served with the Fair Grove Fire Department, according to his obituary. He  is survived by the mother of his children, Rhonda Lynn Lewis; two children, Amber Holt, Dakota Holt and fiancée Brandi Monk; parents, Billy Holt, Sr. and wife Donna Fullington Holt; two grandchildren, Kholeson and Adalynn; one brother, Bill Holt, Jr. and wife Tonya.
