Shortly after 3 p.m. on March 4, 2013, Rocky Mount (NC) firefighters responded to an occupied residential structure on the 900 Block of Arlington Street.
The first-in engine company reported that they had a heavily involved occupied house. Firefighters were forced to make an exterior attack and quickly had the bulk of the fire knocked down. It took more than an hour to bring the fire under control. Firefighters remained on the scene overhauling and checking for hot spots.
The occupants were able to flee the dwelling before the arrival of the fire department. No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation by the Rocky Mount fire department fire marshal’s office.
The American Red Cross responded to assist the family with temporary housing.
Fire units that responded were Engine Companies 1, 4, and 5; Ladder Companies 10 and 30; Squad Companies 1 and 2; Battalion Chiefs 1, 2 and a safety officer; and the Division Chief of the department.
