Near Miss for VA Firefighter: Explosion After Forcible Entry

Fairfax County (VA) Fire and Rescue crews experienced a close call earlier this week after an explosion occurred as firefighters attempted to make entry on the fireground.

According to a social media post from the agency, firefighters responded to a utility emergency in the 3800 block of South George Mason Drive in Baileys Crossroads. An explosion occurred while firefighters were working that was captured on video. The firefighters are well, according to the department.

Video captured by a bystander shows one firefighter forcing a door while another is readying a hoseline. Moments after the door is opened, a violent explosion occurs.
