Mar. 8—NEW HAVEN — A firefighter was injured Saturday as crews worked to extinguish a two-alarm fire that erupted in an apartment building in the city’s Beaver Hills neighborhood, officials said.
Emergency officials responded just before 6 p.m. to a multifamily building on Blake Street for a report of a porch fire, according to Assistant New Haven Fire Chief Dan Coughlin.
Coughlin said the responding units arrived to find heavy fire in the roof of the building and activated a second alarm for back up, noting crews faced difficulty accessing the residential complex.
“Gates and fences had to be cut for access,” he said.
Coughlin said three apartments were engulfed in flames and other units were damaged, but that crews successfully managed to bring the fire under control. He said one firefighter was hurt but did not share the extent of their injuries.
