Five firefighters were being treated for smoke inhalation they suffered Friday afternoon while performing firefighting operations in the basement of a New Hyde Park (NY) home.
Two of the firefighters were in serous condition, according to officials, while three others were expected to be released shortly from local hospitals.

Three firefighters were able to escape up the stairs, while another escaped from a basement window. The most seriously injured was rescued by colleagues. Two occupants escaped uninjured.
