Fort Lee, NJ – At Borough Hall on January 19, Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich swore in the new members of the Volunteer Fire Department, Companies one through four, including Keith Sabatino, Company No. 2, who was elected Fire Chief. Also sworn in were Mark Sulcov, Deputy Chief, for Company No. 3; and William Chippane, Battalion Chief, Company No. 4. Sabatino replaces Jeffrey Silver for a one-year term.
Sabatino addressed the highlights of the department’s achievements in 2011, on behalf of Silver, who was not present because he was investigating a fire.
Sabitino called attention to the 1,696 calls the department responded to as an example of the strength and dedication the fire department has shown to the borough. These included fixing a 30-inch water main break in Englewood Cliffs that left most of Fort Lee with little or no water pressure; the damage of Hurricane Irene; retrieving a crashed car from a pool in a condominium complex on Center Avenue during the summer; and the restoration of power caused by the downed power lines of the October 29 snowstorm.
