Quincy, MA – The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) again will co-fund eight fellowships for selected members of the fire service to attend Harvard University’s 2005 Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. NFPA’s funding co-partners are the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA).
This year’s awardees are:
- Thomas Carr, chief of the Montgomery County (MD) Fire & Rescue
- Rosemary Cloud, chief of East Point (GA) Fire Department
- Michael Jensen, deputy chief, Unified Fire Authority, Salt Lake City
- John McGrath, deputy commissioner, Philadelphia Fire Department
- Charles Myers, deputy chief, North Shore (WI) Fire Department
- Manuel Neves, battalion chief, Honolulu Fire Department
- James Sideras, division chief, Sioux Falls (SD) Fire Department
- Steven Westermann, chief, Central Jackson (MO) Fire Protection District
The fellows will attend one of two, three-week programs in Cambridge, MA. The program uses case methods to explore key leadership areas, including strategy and political management, public value and policy analysis, as well as effective public service.
Other members of the selection panel are: R. David Paulison, administrator of USFA; Denis Onieal, superintendent of the National Fire Academy; Hugh Wood, chief of the response section of USFA; Bob Dipoli, president of IAFC; Chris Neal, director of IFSTA; and Kevin McGee, a 2001 fellow from the program, and an assistant chief of the Prince William County (Va.) Department of Fire Rescue.
Two alternate-awardees were also chosen. They are Larry Webb, chief of the San Marcos (CA) Fire Department and John Murphy, deputy chief of the Issaquah (WA) Fire Department.
