NJ Fire Department Unveils 9/11 Monument

TOTOWA – Nearly 200 area residents gathered at Totowa’s municipal building Sunday afternoon to watch the Totowa Fire Department (TFD) unveil a granite and steel tribute to those who died in the 9/11 World Trade Center (WTC) attacks.

The memorial was designed and funded by the TFD and includes two stone towers approximately three feet high that symbolize the WTC’s Twin Towers. Below those sits a burned piece of an I-beam that was taken from the WTC wreckage.

James Sorokac, a New York City firefighter assigned to the department’s ceremonial unit, spoke to the crowd about his experiences on 9/11, revealing that he lost 47 of his friends and fellow members that day.
