NJ Firefighter Dies After Responding to Two Calls

A Sussex Township (NJ) firefighter has passed away after suffering a heart attack, according to news reports.

Tony Duivenvoorde, a firefighter and life member of the Sussex Fire Department and EMS, reponded to two calls on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, and subsequently passed away at his home.

According to Sillwater Area Volunteer Fire Company’s Facebook page, Firefighter Duivenvoorde had responded to a fire alarm and then a car into a commercial structure, which caught fire. He suffered a heart attack while at home after the calls and did not recover.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration notice, on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, Firefighter Anthony “Tony” Cornelius Duivenvoorde, 62, responded to two emergency calls; the last response was a fire at a diner. After extinguishment, he returned to the station and went home. At approximately 8:30 p.m. that evening, he was found deceased from an apparent heart attack.
